Ural University is one the oldest universities of the Ural region founded in Ekaterinburg in 1920. A little later, it was split in two: the Ural State University, associated with delivering classical education in basic natural sciences, mathematics, humanities, and social sciences; and the Ural Polytechnic Institute, focused on more applied, vocational studies in metallurgy, engineering, construction, radio, power. In 2011, both of them were merged in Ural Federal University – the largest university of the Urals, the leading scientific and educational center of the region and one of the largest universities in Russia. UrFU is a public, State-owned university, which means part of its budget is paid by the Government, and part is made through providing education and research services.
